Importance of affirmations in speech therapy

Affirmations can play a very powerful role in stuttering therapy. Why is that? First and foremost, it reminds us that whether we stutter or not, we need to keep in mind how mentally strong, resilient and goal-oriented we truly are. When we remind ourselves each and every day that we can take on whatever it may be, our stuttering loses that grasp on us and control that it has over us on a daily basis. Stuttering is as much neurological as it is psychological and physiological. Therefore, saying to yourself “Speaking is a brave act for me, and I am brave” or “It is perfectly ok to stutter – it is what I am saying matters” will bring you out into the light and shatter all the negatives that you might have today. Speech therapy is key when it comes to building your speaking self-confidence.
