Preschool stuttering

Many parents ask: To wait or not to wait when they notice their child start to stutter. It can difficult to make the correct decision without consulting a speech therapist. More often than not, stuttering can be developmental and would go away within a span of 6 months. However, if you are noticing it is getting more frequent and the child is struggling to speak, it is definitely time to act. Seeking a consultation and/or an evaluation may be the best thing that can be done in this case. The older the child gets, the more aware they become of their stuttering. This can lead to various avoidance behaviors, such as shying away from speaking, not raising their hand in class and being of afraid of making new friends because they happen to stutter. Here, at Clearversation Speech and Stuttering Therapy, we address these concerns and are trained at a phenomenal research-based preschool stuttering treatment program called Lidcombe. Don’t wait if you’re concerned – we are here to help.
